Sidenote:
If I worked for Ryan Homes, I would go through the neighborhood and take
pictures of each house and then categorize them. These real-life examples should be uploaded
to Corporate, or at least regionally, where the sales reps could show real life
examples of the exterior colors. And
give addresses if someone wanted to drive by and see it in different lights/times
of day. This could also work for
different Elevations for the homes… just saying! After all of this research, I’m tempted to
create a log anyways!
We put new siding on our previous home and went with a light
gray siding and black shutter combo. I
was really opposed to repeating this in our new house because I wanted
something fresh and new! So we looked at
the color options and decided we wanted to go with Twilight Shadow as the
primary color with Silver Mist as the accent and Pebblestone Clay as the
shutters.

I was SUPER in love with this combo. We even had to pay a little more (I think it
was a little over $1,000), but we were going to try to negotiate this when we
put in our official offer.
Unfortunately, the developer in our neighborhood does not allow the cottage
color scheme (I think that's what it's called) and our SR offered it to us by accident. BUMMER!
So, we went back to the drawing board and really favored
Graphite Gray since it was what we liked with our previous house (with the Irish Thistle as a close 2nd). Silver Mist is the accent siding option. The shutter/door options with Graphite Gray
are:

Ultimately we decided on UEE - Dark Berry shutters with
Raisin door. We drove through the
neighborhood and a couple others in the area and really liked this combo in
person. And it’s just slightly different
than our previous house (which I feel a need to be different from).
Did you have trouble picking your exterior colors? Were you restricted based on the houses
around you? What recommendations do you have
for Ryan Homes to make this process easier?
The only thing we could not do was red brick. Since red isn't a favorite for either of us it was no biggie.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you on pictures of the colors, as well as real pictures of the different elevations. We actually drove through another Ryan development to see our elevation and brick color. It would make the most sense to do something like a catalog...
Bridget - we should start a venture where we catalog real home options so people can see! I wonder if we could talk Ryan Homes into paying us for it? :)
DeleteThere are 1 or 2 homes that are red brick in our subdivision, but not many. There is one house that's being built that is ALL red brick, not just the front... I can only imagine how much that was!

DeleteThe WHOLE house? I know we asked just jokingly and the SR told us it was about 30-50k to do the whole home brick. I would love to see pics of that if you remember!
At our first lot we had a fairly narrow selection. We couldn't do Sandy Tan or Graphite Gray and some other colors because we were one of the last ones on that side. When we moved to our new lot we were able to pick from every color. We ended up going with Sandy Tan siding with Pebble Clay shake with black shutters and a red door. We almost did the opposite (Pebble Clay siding and Sandy Tan shake) but I saw a house with our color combos and really liked it so we went that route instead!

If it makes you feel better, out of the 6 new houses built in my development since Twilight Shadow was added, 5 of them were Twilight Shadow, and the 3 cottage elevation were all the exact combination you described. Even better, it's all on one side of our development, so it looks ridiculous because half of the houses are the same color. I don't know if it's just our area, but if you *had* been able to go with it, you might have seen lots of neighbors crop up with your exact colors.
