Couch Hunting

We went couch hunting on Saturday while Sweet D stayed with the grandparents.  We drove out to Farmville to the massive furniture warehouse Green Front.  They have 12 warehouses of furniture and rugs.  And it was very overwhelming.  I should have taken some pictures of the place - it was crazy.  They also had NO ONE there to help you, which is the opposite of every furniture I've ever been to.  We tried to find stuff, and it was fun to see everything, but we did not find a couch. Sigh...
Couple of things we saw, but didn't quite work.
Then we drove back home and went to Bassett Furniture. Of course we found the couch that we loved.  It was a design your own couch as part of the HGTV Home Design Studio.  We love it, but even with the sale of 25% off, it's wayyyyy out of our price range at ~$5400.  Ummm... that's more than my first car.  I know it's a well made couch, but is a couch really worth that much? Have I mentioned that I have never purchased a new couch?  Mine have all been finds through Craigslist at my old apartments.  And the one we have now, Hubby bought 10 years ago.

So, then we went to Haverty's to see what they had.  We took a quick walk through and didn't see anything initially.  Then we talked to the salesperson and he pointed out the Amalfi line of couches. We really liked this option, and for the bargain price of $2,000 after the sale, it's a contender.  The seat at the end is called the "cuddler" and I've claimed it as my seat.  I still think it's crazy how expensive couches/sectionals are - where are the deals?!?!?

We wouldn't pick something this light.
The reviews on this couch are good - except the 2 main complaints are ones we knew would come up - the cushions seem to lose their fluff and the section spread apart (it seems like this was more on hardwoods, and we have carpet).

While we were at Haverty's we looked at media centers, but didn't love anything we saw... still looking for that too!
This one might look good with our cabinets?

This one was a little more ornate.
So, we're still looking for a couch and media center/somewhere to put our TV.  We're planning on going to Ashley's this week and Virginia Wayside Furniture.  What other places should we be checking out?

  1. Hi. Great blog. Both couches are really nice. $5,400 is insane to me but I'm new to couch shopping. Maybe check Rooms To Go - they have an isofa option on their website that lets you design your own couch - and the price is much more modest!

  2. Wow that Green Front place looks amazing. Wife and I have been looking for furniture too, but with really no luck. I wonder if it would be worth the ride to the Manassas location, about a 3 hour drive for us.

    1. Frank - I haven't been to the Manassas location, but if you could make a weekend out of it - there is a LOT to see in the Farmville location. I think it would be another 1 - 2 hours from Manassas depending on the way you go. They have everything! And it's fun to just putz around and see everything (even if it can be overwhelming).

  3. Aren't prices for sectionals crazy???? We found so many "perfect" sofas for that $5k price tag. Not something we can do right now! I ended up finding a brand new lazy boy sectional at the Habitat for Humanity Restore for $1000. It's not as big of a sectional as I would have liked in a perfect world, but you can't beat $1000!

  4. We just ordered our sectional. It has the cuddled as well... Haha. It was $2200 and that was on sale.

I so wish our ReStore's were as good as Lauren's. Ours have horrible stuff. Lucky!
