We really like the look of subway tile so we are pretty sure we are going to go with that. Now it's finding the right color. With our cream cabinets, white tile won't look good. The countertops have black, gray, cream, tan, purple all swirled in and the hardwoods are dark. I'm 99% sure we are doing light gray in the kitchen for paint (Benjamin Moore - Wickham Gray).
A collage of our selections. The granite doesn't look quite the same in person, as you can see in the snapshot to the right, it looks much "cooler" and gray, not as warm as the picture shows here. |
This is taken looking straight on at where the stove will be. |
This is taken by the morning room, so there is more light. |
Based on these 3, we liked the light gray the best (the one on the far right). The dark gray could work, but I'm worried it will be too dark for the room. The tan/beige is too warm/yellow and I think is too similar to the granite and the countertops.
My only concern is the amount of gray that we are using - the couch and the fireplace will be gray. And if we do the walls gray... I don't want it to feel cold. So we'll just have to make sure we use some warm accents as well.
What are you doing for backsplash?
I like the light gray the best too! You're granite is so pretty! One day we'll hopefully get some granite in our lives!
ReplyDeleteI really want to do a backsplash as well. We also really like subway tile but we dabbled with the idea of using a brick facade. We ended up seeing them use that idea on Property Brothers (I'm now addicted to HGTV) and it looked really nice with white cabinets, but I'm afraid I'd get tired of it. We also looked at subway tile in a color called "Fog" and it was a smokey gray with a touch of blue. That will probably be one of our first projects! That and building a bench/entry area in our mudroom!
Ha - I tok am a fellow HGTV addict! You need to post pics of this brick facade - I am intrigued!
DeleteWe have to buy our granite after we close. I couldn't stomach the 2k upcharge rolled into a mortgage so we went with laminate. We told PM already to attach it as lightly as possibly as its coming out within the first week! Haha.
ReplyDeleteI thought I wanted subway tile for the backsplash until I saw penny round tiles used. So we will be doing penny round in a lighter color. I can't wait to do it, but I want to have the granite installed before we put it up. I love the grey you are using! It looks great!
We were lucky that granite was included in our neighborhood, but we kept it at the first level.
DeleteI really like the penny tile!!! I couldn't convince hubby though - he has his heart set on subway - which is good too! I think hex tile would be fun too!
I too am an HGTV addict! I love the lighter gray. I will also be doing a glass tile backsplash. I can't decide which color though.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see what you pick!
DeleteAwesome! We love the gray glass subway tile backsplash too!! Can't wait to see how your project turns out! I'll be taking notes....
ReplyDeleteI will be sure to post updates!!! Can't wait to get started!
DeleteI kind of like the first two the best! The dark one would be very unique, but I can see if you don't want to be that risky. And I think the middle one just goes perfect with the granite. But I think all of them will work! Can't wait to see it installed!
ReplyDeleteI know, I can't wait to get started!
